A Panel of Experts will provide an overview of current trends in healthcare that greatly affect medical treatment and quality of life for terminally ill patients and their families. Specifically, we will cover:
Palliative Care, a new interdisciplinary approach to alleviate suffering and improve quality of life.
Hospice Care: Common myths and misconceptions about this important insurance benefit will be addressed, as well as the role it can play in extending a patient’s lifespan while improving a sense of well-being.
New Advance Directives and POLST. Four years ago, our CA state legislature enacted a law creating a new advance directive designed specifically for patients

Patricia Helmick, RN is the Team Manager, Palliative Care Program with Family Hospice. Patricia oversees the clinical care services for the largest Palliative Care program in the desert. She spent 16 years as an ICU nurse and three years in long-term care.
Lori Mullen, RN, BNPC. Lori is currently an RN Hospice Specialist with Odyssey Hospice. She has worked in the field since 1995and helps families understand the benefits of Hospice Care.
Jefferson Hills is a volunteer and trained educator for the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California, a statewide partnership of regional and statewide organizations, state agencies, and individuals working together to promote high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care for all Californians.
